Welcome

Founded in 1979, MTC is a community of amateur drama enthusiasts, hailing from different parts of the world, who have a passion for the dramatic arts. As the Drama Section of The British Club, we welcome all volunteers from seasoned professionals to complete amateurs with no knowledge of theatre. Not all of us are performers, directors or tech whizzes: many have joined to help with the admin, move props or paint scenery.

Our aim is to put on a variety of events each year, from plays and pantomimes to improv workshops and socials. We even have our own coveted Annual Golden Spoon Awards! We use ticket income to pay for the essentials but aim to have a percentage of profits leftover to give to charity and continue to support the beating heart of drama in our local community.

We need support with props, wardrobe, child wrangling (yes- it’s a thing), crank turning, publicity, front of house, set building … the list is endless. We will greet you in the wings, onstage or back, and front of house, and if you’re not sure where you fit we will tell you! Come along to our regular meeting of minds, Huddle Up, and get acquainted.

Huddle Up

Every so often we just need to reconnect and Huddle Up. An occasional meeting of minds and social gathering for adults only, Huddle Up is an opportunity to come and talk to like-minded people, share ideas, talk about what’s on, or just have a chat and a laugh, over a drink or two.

Every Huddle Up is different. We might read short plays or skits, present cheques to local charities, play improv games or give away scripts or old costumes- we’ve even had an owl and a falcon amongst our visitors! Anything goes. There might be five of us, or thirty, but you’re always guaranteed good company.  We will let you know when we are going to Huddle Up on our Instagram and Facebook pages.

Improv

Improv is a form of live theatre where everything is made up in the moment. Unplanned and unscripted, it’s fun, silly, collaborative and hugely satisfying. It’s also a great way to build your confidence and learn new skills. Interested in having a go? At MTC, through improv games, we create a friendly, fun, sociable and supportive atmosphere where people are free to play and be themselves. You don’t need any previous experience in improv, comedy or acting to take part. Sessions are weekly on Wednesdays from 8-9.30pm at The British Club. Follow us on social media for regular updates.

MTC In Action

Junior Workshops

Children always take an active role in our pantomimes, and become part of the MTC family. There are dedicated courses running privately, on Wednesdays, throughout the year at The British Club. Drama sessions are not only great for children interested in becoming involved in acting, but they are also an excellent opportunity to build confidence and help to improve communication skills and pronunciation. It’s always a pleasure to watch our mini-members express themselves, have fun and grow.
